We wait for it all year long – us New Englander’s that is- I’m talking about Summer and all the wonderfulness that it brings! Sure most apartment’s don’t have central air and it gets humid by July, but guess what – the snow is nowhere to be found and that makes for thousands of happy people – especially those that flock to Boston for vacation.
Boston has been my home for the last five years – and honestly it’s such a great city!! There are moments I stop and pinch myself because I’m living in the city I’ve wanted to live in since I was 9!! There’s so much to do and see – but for this post- I’ll hit you with the highlights as if you’re coming for a weekend – because you’ll come back for more!
I’m going to start this post off with what the ladies will want…shopping!!
Also known as our version of Fifth Avenue, this is where you’ll find the high end mixed in with H&M, Zara and Nordstrom Rack!! It spans 8 blocks and has some of the best shopping and restaurants. Honorable mention goes toThe Shops at Prudential & Copley Place Mall that are located off Boylston Street. So if you are looking for reprieve from the heat you can go to those!
The North End is Boston’s version of Little Italy!! You really can’t go wrong with any restaurant you choose so it’s not even worth it to give suggestions!! A crowd favorite seems to be Giacomo’s – but here’s a tip – don’t go to the one in the North End – the lines are always outrageous! Go to the one in the South Endand bring cash – that’s all they accept at both locations!
You know all those pretty flowers that I always snap on the weekends – well all those blooms can be found in The Public Garden!! Boston Common and The Public Garden are separated by Charles Street so you can easily walk through both without breaking a sweat!! The Common offers you the frog pondwhile the garden gives you the swan boats!!

Faneuil Hall Marketplaceis the hub of Boston if you will. It was built as a gift to the city by a rich merchant and today you’ll find lots of restaurants, shops and street performers. You can stop into Hillstonefor some delicious food and then over to Sterling’s for some after dinner drinks!
Instead of going to the Sam Adams Brewery opt for the Harpoon Brewery in the Seaport. Not only do you get a much better selection, but the tour tends to last a bit longer. I’ve only done the Sam Adams tour once and we all felt rushed through the entire thing!
It’s summer in Boston, you have to make your way to Fenway! Even if you’re not a baseball fan –touring this iconic park is a must!! You get to see the ins and outs of the stadium. While you don’t get to go on the field – you get to sit atop the Green Monster, which some have said are the best seats in the house!!
For some libations my all time favorites…
TheLiberty Hotelis an old jail that was converted into a hotel a few years ago! There are a few restaurants and a bars to lounge around in! Alibi has a really cool vibe – partly due to the mugshots they have lining the walls of famous people!
City Bar in the Lenox Hotel is the best place to get your night started (if you’re planning to go out around the Back Bay) and they have my absolute favorite – the Bellini!
I could spend hours letting you know which museums to visit, which restaurants to eat at and all the other sights to see – but these are the highlights if you’re coming for the weekend!! Yes there is also Cambridge, but skip the full on Harvard tour and just go visit the “old yard” yourself!!

Honestly there is no better city in the Summer than Boston in my honest opinion 😉 We stayed at the Liberty hotel last year and loved it! Oh and a Sox game is a definite. Can't wait till we are up there!!!!
We were in Boston September 2012 and it was such a wonderful trip. We walked EVERYWHERE and saw so much history. We also had no idea that MIke's was so famous, we just saw people with boxes and went there for fun…so delicious!
I loved little Itay and the historical walk, so so much fun!

Great post on your home city. 🙂 Some day I hope to return there and to Newport. Boston is so much smaller than Chicago, but it there is plenty to see and do. Definitely a great weekend trip. We did two days there and the rest in Newport. We stayed at the Nine Zero Hotel which was very nice. We walked the Freedom Trail, and to the gardens. The North End was fun for dinner, and Cambridge was beautiful. Never made it to Faneuil Hall Marketplace or Newbury Street. Guess we'll have to do that next time! 🙂

Oh this post made me miss Boston!! We visited in the winter a couple years ago and LOVED it but I'd love to see the city when it's a bit warmer and there aren't 8 inches of snow on the ground. 🙂
Boston is on our bucket list of places to visit in the U.S. It looks so beautiful, and these are great tips! I've always wanted to go to Fenway Park, and I also would love to go to the public library (nerd at heart).

I traveled to Boston when I was on tour and LOVED it! We were there during the Presidential election of 2008 and it was crazy! We did the Sam Adams tour and I was so disappointed. I don't really like any of their beer and I felt like they didn't really show us anything. Our hotel was across the street from Fenway but since it was fall we went to a Bruins game. So fun!

I've only been to Boston for a day trip and will never ever forget the lobster grilled cheese I had! SOOOO good! I wish I could remember which restaurant I was at though, ha! This is making me want to plan a trip… maybe for next summer so we can catch a baseball game 🙂
