Back when I first started blogging almost one year ago (ahhh) I did a post on my winter essentials! I actually had to delete the post because for some reason I had an insane amount of spam comments coming in for that one post!! Since it no longer exists and pretty much the entire country is prepping for two weeks of frigid temps – it’s the perfect time to share some of my winter essentials!!
Coats
Coats
I’m currently sporting this Tahari coat and it’s time for a change! It’s been a great four year run, but not only do I need something a little warmer, but I need something that doesn’t have a split seam / ripped pocket!! Sadly the coat is no longer available or I’d just buy the same one…but I want something similar!
My first choice is this Tahari Puffer jacketin Chocolate and it’s on sale!!
Michael Kors Belted Puffer Coat
Dream Winter Jacket
North Face has this parka and it keeps you almost thermal!! But at $320 I’m not ready to spend that kind of money…even though I would probably be living in this jacket for 5 months out of the year!
Just because I need to be warm doesn’t mean I can’t look cute right!?I always buy my big coats from stores like Macy’s and Lord & Taylorbecause they have the best sales and I can double up on my coupons!
Boots
Boots
I have these Sorel Joan of Arctic boots in grey and honestly when there is snow on the ground or the threat of a snow storm I live in them!! Are they the easiest to walk in – that’s a big fat NO, do I waddle a bit like a duck, YES but, what they do have going for them…me not falling on black ice!!!
For every other winter day I can be found walking in the UGG Summer Boots – poor naming on the brands part. Some might thing that these are not fashionable, but let me tell you when you toes are warm, it hardly matters what the boots look like! I personally think these are fantastic!
I don’t think I’m quite “New England” enough to sport these LL Bean Boots, but I do like that they are ankle boots!
Outerwear
I’m a firm believer in looking cute even if it means I have to be covered from head to toe and in the winter I take that literally! I’m really sad that I lost my favorite North Face hatlast year, but I’m repurchasing it without a doubt! This is the best hat and worth the $35 price tag!! My scarf of choice is a Burberry wool scarf that was a gift from my sister from my first winter in Boston and is sadly not sold in stores anymore! I do have a few back-ups all from Target and they are just as warm! As for gloves well I have two sets – those that I wear every day and then other’s for going out! How dreamy are these Kate Spade quilted gloves?
Other essentials!
Hand and Feet warmers!! I didn’t realize just how essential these were until the city was shut down earlier this year because it was too cold to go outside!! Being the rebels we are, Gary and I decided after 24+ hours cooped up inside we’d venture to the movies…well lets fast forward to Gary buying a few sets of these at CVS so our toes could defrost!!
Ear warmers are another item that I wear on those especially frigid days! I’m not afraid to have a hat on and my ears covered…at least I’ll be warm!
EOS chapstickis my favorite and I have about three at any given time! Cracked and dry lips are the worst this time of year and this has been a life saver!!
So there you have my winter essentials! What do you need to survive the cold?
You can shop my winter favorites here:
xo,
Check Marshalls for coats! They get Tahari in at Marshalls often! I love this coat from the Blue Door Boutique thebluedoorboutique.com/Perfect-Puffer-Coat.html. I don't really need a new one right now though. The Kate Spade gloves are gorg! I love the Eos formula, but not so much the design. I mostly carry a wristlet at work) and it doesn't fit in there. I always seem to be dropping it on the floor! lol xo
Great coat round up, and you are right! Those gloves are perfect! I am actually on the lookout for new leather gloves because some how one never makes it through the whole season.

Peaches In A Pod
I literally have a jar of eos chapstick right in front of me!! haha it contains about 5….I have a problem! ANYWAYS, I love this post! We are prepping for the polar vortex down here, and I really like those puffer coats! And nothing makes me happier than gloves and earmuffs or a beanie!

Love your coat selection, so pretty! And those tie warmers sound pretty fabulous too!! Stay warm!!
It was 55 here this morning and I was freezing……it's all relative right? π Love that Northface jacket! Their stuff stays so well…..definitely need to find a coupon code! Your other winter essential is that you always have a place to stay in FL π xoxoxo
I need a new winter coat too. Last year was brutal. I love those ear muffs I got a similar one last year and it was perfect for shoveling.
I say you move back to FL and you won't need any of this stuff π
But I do love those KS gloves and the MK coat.. so pretty!
I'm torn between wanting to wear such fabulous coats and never wanting to leave to south to a climate where they would actually be necessary. Haha, loving these picks!
These are all fantastic picks and great timing – it's a whopping 18 degrees here this morning! You should keep an eye out at TJMaxx and Marshall's for coats. I almost bought a Michael Kors coat a few weeks ago for only $99! Sadly, I already have a nice heavy peacoat so I couldn't really justify it. I did, though, just buy a long puffer coat from Costco of all places! I think the brand is Anthony Marc – it's a great heavy coat, and I know it will keep me super warm on these chilly days. Hand and feet warmers are definitely a must – thanks for reminding me to pick up a few packs!
i live in a frozen tundra (canada) so warm winter gear is a must for me. the only jacket i will wear is north face because not only is it SO WARM, it's one of the best technical coats in the industry. my friend is a designer and is really knowledgeable with fabrics and she said that north face coats have one of the best technical designs that help regulate your temperature so you stay warm.
i've been making ear warmers and scarves these past few days and will be attempting a hat next week π
Ugh, winter! I'm so not ready for it! But these coats!! I neeeeeeeed one of these in my life! Those ear warmers are my fave and of course I love EOS chapstick! Mia discovered mine on Sunday and she sat on the couch for a solid half hour unscrewing it, smearing it on her lips (but not before testing it on her face before I showed her where to put it on) then screwing it back on. Over and over and over for a half hour. She would also look at me and say, "nummy nummy!!" just to let me know that she was really enjoying herself, HA!
ohhh winter coats and boots… i am SO happy i dont have to deal with all of that this winter. (maybe we will next winter if we move…but til then bring on the lighter wool jackets!) xo jillian – cornflake dreams
That North Face parka looks so cozy and I love the color! So perfect and chic for winter! Love the scarf too!
My lips have been so cracked lately. I need to pick up another EOS since I canβt find mine. LOVE that belted coat Michael Kors coat!
I love that MK belted coat! I am in desparate need of a good winter coat! I think it's time to break down and get one. I also need those LL Bean boots! Great picks!
This like THE fall survival kit! I love the jackets, especially the ones with fur, but what's really amazing are the toe warmers– I've never heard of them but they seem SO handy!

Even though I can't really relate to wearing a coat that big haha I love the Tahari with the fur! So pretty! And I'm in love with those Kate Spade gloves!

Snow boots are such a must! I spent almost ten years up north before buying a pair…for the one winter before we moved to Florida, haha. At least I have them if we ever go skiing!
I'm so glad outerwear is more fashionable, now. I remember looking a fool when I had to bundle up, now I can at least try to look like a cute marshmallow π
I got a JCrew puffer that is THE warmest coat ever and they have on Factory now. I can't say enough good things about it! Those hand and feet warmers are key and so are Ugg's!! I stocked up on fleece lined leggings last year, which make leaving the house a little easier! I am so not ready for another winter like last year's!
Great post!! Buying outwear can be so challenging as puffer coats can be so unflattering. I have a DKNY one that I love, it has a cinched waist and it really makes the coat more flattering. In the winter, you need a good hat, scarf and boots. Last year, someone stole my favorite hat. I was so upset, I had it for years and am still heartbroken over it. Thanks it all the snow last year, my winter boots fell apart. It was too upsetting since I had them for about five years. Oh I loved them though, they were bright pink. Wearing bright boots in the snow, just makes things more cheery.
Your list is similar to mine! I love that Northface coat but, damn! Too expensive! I love the Sorel boots as well and also use my 10 year old, ripped, totally destroyed uggs for things like taking the dog out!
My coat is in the mail! And I am a little worried about waiting for it!
Aren't spam comments crazy?! I have one particular post too (from months and months ago) that gets a ton of it. So weird how that works!
Anyway, I don't own a winter coat, but I DO wish I lived in a place cold enough to wear Sorels! I think they are so stinkin' cute!
I really need to invest in a long black puffer coat! My peacoat just doesn't keep up when it's really freezing outside. This is a great list and you are so right – sometimes you just don't care as long as your toes are warm! I would have to add some tall socks for days when you have to wear thin dress pants to this list!
I'm getting those toe warmers!! And winter only lasts 5 months there? Its like already started here. π I have a down North Face coat that goes down to to like my shin and its awesome. That Michael Kors coat is SO cute though!! We sell Sorel boots at work that are super cute and everyone loves them. I hope that you are staying warm today and that you are having a good day so far too. π
I got a long puffer coat back in college and I seirously love it. It keeps you soo warm! I really need a new one, though.. it is starting to look a little worn!

TOE WARMERS!!! I NEED!!!
I have to slather on lip balm all winter long.
I have the hardest time finding a coat where I don't look like a blimp… I love the puffer coats – they look so warm, just wish they looked decent on me. #marshmellowman
Did you say frigid temps are on the way?? Ugh…I HATE being cold! Love the Michael Kors belted puffer coat and those chic cold weather accessories! And I need to RUN to CVS to grab those toe warmers! My feet are always freezing!! Thanks for the suggestion!!
taffetaandtulips.com
Those gloves are the cutest! Ugh, toe warmers. I am so not ready for super cold weather. But you know, this post does help get me excited about it. Those coats are all so cute and look so warm and cozy.
obviously i love this post. i like the tahari jacket! and yeah the weather next week…ew.
I could never visit up north because I seriously don't have ANY cold weather stuff⦠except a pea coat. I love those LL bean boots and seriously needs something for when it snows, either those or Hunter boots. And I need a nice pair of gloves as well.. those Kate Spade ones are perfect!! (Clearly my wish list is way too long) hehe
Oh my goodness…that North Face jacket! I love the length and the color is so beautiful, but I am totally with you on the $300 price tag. I have a much shorter North Face jacket that my parents got me with their American Express points, and I practically live in it in the winter. It is so comfy & cute. I would have never spent $200 on it, but I am glad I have it. π
Man I wish I had a need for a big jacket like that because I love it!!! I will def be buying a pair of bean boots this season…love your post!
Those puffer jackets would definitely be the first purchase I made if I moved back North, especially to Boston! I love LL Bean boots, definitely recommend! I don't wear them much here but always pack them when we visit my family.
I have a big a$$ knee length down coat from Land's End that sees me through most of the hideous cold. That's my saving grace.
I have a few boots that I rotate.
oh man I'm thankful I don't have to wear super heavy winter clothes but a good jacket is always good to have. I see a Michael Kor's one similar to your picks (but shorter) in Marshall's for $50 and almost bought it…I'm still thinking about it so might have to go back and get it!! I love that EOS chapstick and keep it in my purse!
I love all of those winter coats you picked out! I'm hoping mine will make it another year even though it's a little bit on the snug side, but I usually get mine from Macy's too when you can get them on-sale + the coupons! I need to pick up some of those toe warmers, my feet are always so cold!
I freaking hate the winter. hate. I have spent 2 winters here now, and the last was obviously the worst (out of 2 haha I have so many more to go) and this year I am determined to at least be comfortable and cute-ish. I bought a big puffy jacket (not as puffy as those ones) at the end of last winter and I'm all about the scarves and beanies this year. That north face hat is super cute, if and when you replace it you'll have to share some pictures so that I can see what it looks like before buying it myself π
Yes yes yes! I'm sooo not ready for winter yet, they're predicting 2-4 inches of snow here this week!!! Great prices for all of those jackets! I've had my eye on the J Crew belted parka… love it but haven't wanted to spend the money yet!
Love all the coats and boots! So warm and cozy for cold weather!
God bless,
XO, Claire

I live in my sorel boots once it gets cold outside. And it's FREEZING here the past few days…I'm trying to avoid going outdoors as much as I can!
Love the hat and gloves you picked – and EOS is my go to brand for winter!
madeintheshadeblog.com
All of that looks so cozy…but the only thing it gets cold enough for in Texas is the EOS chapstick! haha Stay warm girlie!!
I need my heater and some wine and puppies to stay warm – but that's because it's not arctic temperatures like you guys can get! Love the blue parka!
I have finally given up on the idea of looking cute during winter. Mind you, I really tried I wore ONLY peacoats during college – while living in BOSTON. I was freezing the entire time! Anyways, I am getting a North Face Metro Parka this year and couldn't be more excited! Paired with Uggs I will look terrible but I'll be warm!

You and I are on the same wave length today! I love a classic bean boot, and can not live without toe warmers in the winter!
Emily from F Is For Blog
Yes to all these! I am in desperate need of a new winter coat and I'm starting to panic that I won't have time to get shopping before the frigid cold hits. Hating my busy schedule and procrastination so bad right now! Also, another vote for Uggs. Yeah, some of the insane styles they've come out with are u-g-l-y but they are WARM beyond belief so who cares?? I finally retired my sad old black short booties (RIP) but my Ugg moccasins and new cardigan boots are going to be on repeat allllll winter long!
I love that first puffer coat! And EOS is the bomb! My fav!
coffeebeansandbobbypins.blogspot.com
Love your picks — my fave is that second MK coat! I have a puffer coat that's white that I love — but it hasn't been quite cold enough here yet!
xo Southern Style
you reminded me how long it's been since i lived in the NE! but i love this post. i have a north face jacket i live in when i travel anywhere w/ snow and my sorel boots/ugg combo is the BEST. totally agree. π

Tall thick socks, chapstick and gloves are my musts! It's 30 degrees and freezing here today, I'm not ready for this π
When I visit my in laws in Boston I live off of those toe warmer packs! (and wine)
I love that gray DKNY coat!
Ok If I ever go up north during the winter I'm going to have to remember those toe warmers! My feet are ALWAYS freezing so that would be nice! I can't imagine needing those heavy jackets but they're super cute if I needed one!!

This post reminded me that I need to get my southern winter preparedness kit together stat! I already planned on doing a post about it to give you northern living people a good laugh!
The coats ya'll wear are no joke!! How do you even move in those things!? I can get down with a festive scarf or two though π
I love these picks, I'll definitely need to get my hands on some good outerwear for my first winter on the east coast.
…and I didn't even know that toe warmers existed!

I have a North Face puffy parka on my Christmas wish list… I don't think I was good enough for Santa to get it for me though.
Love your picks! I definitely need a warmer winter jacket. And those toe warmers? Wish I had them in Chicago! Bean Boots are my favorite. I have them both in the ankle booties and the slip ons. xo
Love your picks Biana.
I got a coat a few years ago from Zara that looks almost identical to the Michael Kors jacket for half the price. And feet and hand warmers are absolutely essentials, glad to see you included them on your list!
Love to read about your winter essentials! Love your coat choices! I sure hope you find one to replace you current jacket as that one sounds like it has served you well over the past years!

I'm having a hard time finding a coat I like! These are all fabulous!
I have one of the parkas from North Face and I LOVE it! Love the coast you picked and can see you rocking all of them pretty girl!
~Elise @ highheelsglitteringeyes.blogspot.com
I love my Sorels so much! And I really think I need a puffer coat. Although I'm sure the hubs wound say I have enough coats….but I don't have a puffer!
I am dying for a parka! I love all of them that you posted including the one you currently own! I put one on my Christmas list! I definitely think the north face or the DKNY one is my favorite! Maybe there will be some black Friday or Cyber monday sales that you can take advantage of?! I also love my Sorel boots! Definitely warm! lacrosse is another brand that is my favorite warm {hunting} use boots! π And yes yes yes, got to have cute outerwear! π
I sometimes wish I had a winter .. just for the cute clothes! haha
