I got the idea for this post from Liz and then when Christina did her version I basically knew I had to join in on the fun!! I like to think of myself as quite the saver with only a few things I will always splurge on!! Below are the categories and feel free to join in on the fun!
1// A cocktail dress to wear to a wedding
2. A glass of wine at a restaurant
3// A hotel room
4// A haircut
5// Wild card…you name it!
1// SAVE! I think this post pretty much sums up my thoughts on saving for a cocktail dress! I have so many great dresses that are from TJ Maxx and Marshalls!! These are always my go-to’s for weddings and even though I think I’ll stray and splurge on a cocktail dress, I just remember that I have about 10 in my closet that are worthy of being worn!
2// SAVE!! I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, so for that reason I always save and get the second cheapest glass of wine on the menu…why not the first cheapest? Well I figure the second one has to be slightly better!
Relax is my favorite brand of Riesling so I always stock up when we go to Wegmans!
3// SAVE / SPLURGE!! I personally like to stay in nicer hotels when we’re on vacation, but I’ll research and do my homework on getting the best price! We stayed a two really great hotels for our trip this summer and I was able to find both through deal sites!
4//SPLURGE!! And by splurge I mean find a Grouponor Gilt Citydeal for a great salon!! I get my haircut only a few times a year and since I don’t color it I feel like I can splurge on getting a great cut with a little gloss added into the service. When I say splurge I mean no more than $50!!
5// My wild card is purses and this will always be a splurge for me!! I have a few designer bags in my closet and the use I get out of them far outweighs the cost of them. I wear my Neverfull LV bag every day to work and have for the last 4 years…that right there is return on investment! I’d much rather spend more on a purse than on clothes and shoes…it’s just my thing!
I’d love to know where you like to save and what’s worth the splurge for you!
P.S. Happy Veteran’s Day to all the men and women who have served our country and continue to serve to protect our well being!!
xo,
I'm the same way on most of these! Occasionally I'll splurge on a glass of wine but I will ALWAYS splurge on a bag! And I agree about the hotel room, definitely worth finding the great deal on the splurge! What a fun little post… I might have to steal this from you! π

Girrrrrrl, I feel your re: Relax Riesling. That stuff is AWESOME and is a bargain! π

You never have to tell me twice to splurge on a handbag!! The quality will last you forever and it is totally worth it! I also agree on your saves! π

A good handbag is always a worthy splurge in my book!! You get the best ROI on them!
i splurge on skin and beauty products. i used to be a bag whore but i've since cut down on buying them….i have 3 baskets of designer bags in their dust bags all lonely because i haven't had time to put them into my rotation!
I might try out a gloss next time I get mine cut. You have the prettiest hair. I've got to try that wine also. Resulting us my fave! Xo
i totally agree on these — i dont really drink (esp now!) but when i did i loved that relax riesling! and i think a haircut is always worth the splurge. xo jillian – cornflake dreams
So fun! I think I'll join in on this one. That hotel room looks incredible. It just makes we want to go on vacation… RIGHT NOW!

I love the Relax Reisling and tend to go on the steal side for wines. I don't splurge on much but home decor is always something I will spend some money on.
I may have to do this! I'm with you on all of these! Not having a shady hotel room is worth the extra money/ research!
These are generally all saves for me except for my wildcard…shoes!
Come to Utah to get your hair done… my salon charges $20 for a haircut ($30) with a style. That's seriously the average going rate. (I live in the wrong state for doing hair, HA!) Just think, all the money you would be saving on haircuts would totally pay for your flight π HA!
I finally understand why people splurge on bags! I never could understand why women would spend so much money on purses until this last year! I've indulged a couple times and I'm never going back!! (Probably because I won't ever buy another bag now π ha ha!)
I think that splurging on a bag and shoes are fine. I say this because I believe in having a high quality bag that will last a long time, and also in comfortable shoes. And if comfortable shoes are more expensive, I'm getting them. Chris is really particular about hotels so he is the decider on that. He is also the trip planner haha. I cut and color my hair like once a year. I usually go for the cheapest or second cheapest red wine at a restaurant too. We also never go above $20 dollars when buying a bottle of wine at the store. I hope that you're having a great day so far!!! π
What fun post π I'm with you on the dress and wine! I wish I could on a hotel room but I've never really splurged on that. I should though! At least for a special occasion. I recently got my first designer purse and I love it! Totally worth the money and it wasn't as expensive as most!
I'll pretty much co-sign this… I love my under $10 bottles of wine (that honestly don't taste different from the much more expensive wines I've tried at fancy events or rich relatives' homes), but H and I have tried to skimp out on hotel rooms before and have learned the hard way. We have decided it's not worth it to cheap out on vacation, but like you we always research the best deal and I can't stress enough how important it is to read trip adviser and cruise critic before booking a trip.
My splurge is also on my hair and on accessories. I would much rather buy my clothes from F21, Target, and the Gap and splurge on accessories that are worn almost daily.
spending more on purses, shoes and hair is SO my way of thinking too. gotta invest in the stuff that matters! and lucky you dont have to color your hair. ah i wish π

I need a neverfull! I just love it! But these are great save/splurge options, for sure!

I keep hearing about this "Rent the Runway" website. Do you recommend it? I read the post that you had a link to regarding Rent the Runway. How long do you rent the dress for? What if it doesn't fit? What if you do something to the dress? You are just like me when it comes to wines at restaurants! There is a huge markup on wines at restaurants so I always go for the second cheapest glass. I will forever plurge on purses, they are my total weakness.
Girl, I'm the same way!! Any wine makes me happy and I like to splurge on a nice hotel room for the best travel experience⦠it makes all the difference! But hair⦠I HATE spending $$$ to color it. I'm slowly trying to get it back to my natural but it's not cheap, and I'm scared of a box color :/ Have a great day! xo
Ok I completely agree with every single one of these! The one thing I always splurge on is a good bag!!

Such a fun idea!!!! I'm with ya on saving on cocktail dresses/wine but totally splurge on nice hotels through deal sites so technically you're saving anyway π
Love the idea of this post! Also love your theory behind ordering the second most inexpensive glass of wine at dinner! haha I'm with you on needing to find nice hotels for the best possible price!
Now I don't have to do this post, because we have the exact same answers! lol!
Ah! This was so much fun to read!
I am right there with you! Spending $$$ on purses that last forever is so worth it! I HATE spending a lot of money on a haircut, so I am constantly sending my friends to my favorite salon so I can get the 20% referral coupon! #thriftywithapurpose
I will always splurge for purses! My haircut only costs me $32 so I guess I would consider that a save since I have friends who pay upwards of $80 each time!!
amemoryofus.com
I'm pretty much with you on all these! The only thing I tend to splurge more on is my hair – since I color my hair and it grows ridiculously fast, I have to get it done at least every two months otherwise I go crazy!
I agree on ALL catagories! I consider myself to always look for a bargain, but will splurge on hair and purses.
I agree with your points, lady. Except, I splurge on hair because mine is so fine and the original color is kind of a lifeless brown. I don't splurge on clothing often, so feel okay paying extra for my hair. I mean, I wear my hair everyday, so its' worth it right.
I WANT THAT LV!!!!
Completely agree with this! I am hoping to splurge on a good handbag one day in the future!
I wish I didn't have to splurge on my hair – but every 6 weeks, its a hunk of change laid down… some things take priority
Love this idea! And I'm with you on so much…except the haircut & the handbags. I color my hair so the $$ goes there and the cut is second thought unfortunately. However an inexpensive glass of wine can be delish as can finding a great dress at Marshall's! And as far as hotels I'm always on both sides – I love staying in a nice place but hate spending a ton that could be used on the sights and shopping but that is exactly why sites like Jetsetter etc are so amazing!
thank you for reminding me i need to go to wegman's for more wine hahah! xo
I love the idea of this post! I splurge on purses too! I only have designer ones and have given away anything else I had. Coach, Michael Kors and Kate Spade have taken over that area of my life! I will also splurge on skin products, make up, shoes, my phone, and beer. haha!
I'm with you on the hotels!! I've always been a save kind of girl on bags, because I usually get tired of them and want a new one fairly often anyways, but I'd love to find one that I really love and splurge a little!
Ohhhhhh I like the set up of this post! It is interesting to see what everyone justifies in their saves vs splurges. I agree I am always a splurge when it comes to hair…..also makeup and bags π Plus getting a few great staple pieces always blends so well with all the Target pickups at least in my case lol
These are all right on the money! I love cheap wine (and often times think it tastes better :)), but like a more expensive hotel in a great location. Shopping around for the best price is key! And don't get me started on bags … π xo

Hair should definitely be a splurge! I am lucky that my friend is suppppper talented and hooks me up!
Hair for sure and bags? Yes!! I will splurge on wine FOR SURE since I have to wait probably over a year to have some again hahaha great post girl!! xoxo
Total agree with you on slurging for hotel rooms. I really like luxury when I'm away from home!

I'm the same with dresses for weddings! For some reason, that always calls for a splurge!

I definitely love to splurge on hotels on vacation… it's my weakness and my indulgence!!
how fun! I'm the same way with hotels, I have to find the best deal!

I love this idea! I have a really big problem with buying glasses of wine at restaurants. I typically (I know, awful) stick with pretty cheap wines on the regular (I just like them) so when a glass of wine is twice as much as I spend on a bottle, I cringe a little hah!
ooooh so fun! what a great idea for a post. i'm the same with dresses for weddings and whatnot, because i don't go to that many i always hit up tj maxx first and if i can't find something there, i go to RTR. way back in the day i wouldn't blink on spending $200+ on a dress to wear to the races or out clubbing because I made more money and had zero responsibilities. silly me.
I'm definitely stealing this for a post, if you don't mind π And love your second cheapest glass of wine – I'm no wine conniseur either, it honestly all tastes the same to me!!
I have to agree with you. Splurge when it comes to a quality hotel room and a timeless handbag. Happy Tuesday, Biana π
I'm definitely a half and half for your #1 – if it's something that isn't trendy that I can get away with wearing a few times/is more classic, I'll splurge, but mostly I wait for the Nordstrom sale and pick up things on the cheap π I usually splurge on hotel rooms, though lately I've been using Airbnb to save money and get 3x the space!
This is a fantastic post – I'm totally going to steal it at some point!
Totally agree to all of your picks! Oh, and good shoes/leather boots π
I nodded my head to literally every single item on your list. Also, I loved you before but now that I know you are a purse girl I love you so much more!!!!!!!!! How did I just find this out??
My wildcard is purses, shoes, and the list goes on!! I love Relax Riesling too. I actually makes me feel relaxed or it could just me a mental things! idk
I am totally going to do my version of this post if you don't mind. What with my brain being fried and all I could use a topic lol. I pretty much agree with every single one of yours. I used to be a designer bag junkie but not any more… hmmm have to think about my wild card! Fun post!!!
Agree with you on most of these! Especially hunting for the best price on a splurge like with a hotel. And I definitely consider the return on investment with expensive staples too. It just makes good sense to splurge sometimes π
Love this post – what a fun idea! Although I found myself mentally checking off splurge, splurge, splurge to every one of your categories….whoops! Maybe that's an indication someone needs to be cutting back π
love this! i'm with you on the hotel room thing. i can totally make a trip! and after my hair tragedy a few years ago, i def will splurge. that ombre is gorgeous!
I enjoyed seeing what you love to save and splurge on!
God bless,
XO, Claire

Great post! I'm always on the hunt for a deal, so this is totally up my alley! I'm cracking up with the second cheapest glass of wine because that's pretty much my magic formula for picking a wine when I'm out too! With hotel rooms, I tend to splurge only when there is a balcony and the view is worth it since we love to sit outside and enjoy some wine with a view!
Cannot agree with you more!! I don't like spending a ton of money on cocktail dresses – like you said, there are several stores that offer very great options. I also like Rent the Runway. Their website is so easy to navigate. Also, they send two different sizes of the same dress to make sure that it fits and they have some very affordable options (i.e., $30 rentals). I haven't splurged on a haircut ever. But I have been told that getting a $120 haircut will change my life – will report back if I spend that much money and I have a life changing experience π

What a fun post, I like your thinking when it comes to wine! And I will splurge on a nice hotel, but priceline is great for saving money too!
You can't put a price on good hair. I won't cheap out on that.
Hotel rooms, usually I do mid-tier. When I'm traveling I'm typically only sleeping in there.
Loved this post! I agree with you totally!! I've had a "cheap" haircut and paid for it! HAHA! Recently found your blog. I might try and do this same post soon and will be sure to link back to you.

I usually splurge on my hair but I'm super picky about that. I have yet to own a designer purse but I REALLY need a bag for work and the Never Full keeps calling to me!
~Elise @ highheelsglitteringeyes.blogspot.com
My wildcard is definitely jeans. I'm pretty frugal when it comes to the rest of my closet but I've found that investing in good jeans is well worth it!
Love this! I tend to splurge on wine, but only on our wine club shipments. If I'm at a restaurant, I'll rarely splurge on a glass. I try so hard to convince my hubby that I need a splurge purse. Maybe for Christmas.
I splurge on bags too! I feel that every time I carry them, I'm lowering the cost of what I paid for it.
I just splurged on an MK bag. Bags are worth the splurge!
