Positivity Project

Meet @ the Barre

Amanda started this Positivity Project back in November and I don’t think there is a better time than the start of the year to spread some positivity through blog land, but also to remind ourselves in the time of resolutions and goals what we love about ourselves?

Here are Amanda’s questions and number 5 I added just for fun!

1. Tell me something that you love about yourself

I’m taking the cues from the other ladies that have done this little Q&A and choosing a physical feature. As much as I didn’t like having long hair when I was younger, I’m so happy my mom didn’t let me cut or color my hair growing up!!

2.  Tell me what you want to work on

I really want to work on being present!! I tried it last year and maybe half succeeded! It’s hard to be 100% present especially when so much of our lives revolves around social media, but I’m going to make a conscious and serious effort to remove myself from the computer and my phone after 10:00 PM…certain things can wait! Not checking instagram after that time probably going to be the hardest part!

3.  Give someone a compliment and mean it

Jenn, I am so happy to have found your blog and become friends with you through it!! I love how honest you are in your posts and I also love how you always try to see the good in people and situations.  More than anything I love our texting convos which mostly consist of selfies and DIYs!

4.  Tell me something that you are proud of, succeeded in or are just generally pumped about.

I’m really proud of how far I’ve come since graduating college. It’s been five years and I finally feel like in the last year I’ve grown the most! I always struggled with figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and through a few lucky breaks and a lot hard work it’s finally happening!!

Remember that spark we all had as kids??!! I wanted to throw this bonus question in because I find that as kids, the world was really at our fingertips! We had crazy dreams, aspirations and felt like we could do anything!! Somewhere along the way we lose that spark, but maybe remembering our dream as a child would spark something exciting in us!! Obviously I won’t become a princess, but dreaming is always a good idea!

5.  When you were a child, what was your dream?

I wanted to be a professional tennis player. I played competitively for 12 years and really thought I was going to be the next Anna Kournikova, but sadly I got burnt out from playing tournaments and decided to give it up after high school. This year I’m going to make a point to join a tennis club in the city and relieve some of my favorite childhood memories!!

Now it’s your turn, what do you love about yourself?

xo,

Aw this is such a fun post and seriously, my answers would be nearly identical to yours! I have always thanked my mom for keeping my hair long and not letting me color it when I was a teenager, now I have healthy long hair, thanks to her! I also vowed to be more present this year and not constantly distracted by my phone!

Hope you have a great day πŸ™‚

Love this!! You know how I feel about your long gorgeous hair… So jealous!! And I need to work on being present more too. I feel like I'm constantly connected to the Internet and I forget to step away sometimes.

Well dang, blogger just ate my comment. I'm totally working on being more present too! I actually turned my phone OFF last night around 6PM and didn't turn it back on again until this morning. Just taking away that one little distraction made such a difference! J and I were just watching TV together–but I felt that urge every 5 minutes or so to "check" my phone. It was a project to squash those urges, but it makes me sad how frequently I feel I need to be plugged in! And totally unrelated to that–I LOVE your long hair! So pretty!

I loved reading this! One of the reasons I moved across the country a year ago was to get that spark back and start chasing those childhood dreams again. They might have changed a bit since I was a kid, but it's more that feeling I was after. I've always had lots of interests and have struggled to find exactly what I want to do, but the more I explore and do things that excite me, the closer I get to finding it! Also, damn girl! You do have some crazy nice hair!!

I'd love to watch you play tennis girl I'm sure you are amazing! So excited for this post!!!! Loved how you added an extra question. I'm trying to think of what I wanted to be as a kid and probably it was a singer/actress/figure skater of some sort πŸ˜‰ You do have the most fabulous hair! xoxoxo

I love that you are working on being present! I am too. It sounds soooooo easy right, like just pay attention and live! But if you're a planner, organizer or dreamer, it is just so dang hard to live for the moment and enjoy the present. Thanks for reminding me to live in the now!

Being present is sometimes hard to do, but hopefully this year will bring more of it! I love your honesty and positivity in this post! It is good to keep sight of these things! There really is something special in our passions and dreams as little girls!

I love this, I always love to hear how people see that they have grown. Its a good feeling. I need to try to be more in the present too, its so tough with computers and cell phones….what did people do before them? lol. On a funny account, my daughter keeps consonantly telling me that I need to join Tennis because "that's what moms do". She also told me Im old enough to be a grandma because Im so old…wth, Im only 30!

You do have gorgeous hair. I too am trying to be more present but it is a struggle. Being positive makes a huge difference, it's all in your mind set. I too am trying to be more positive but its something that I really have a hard time. I tend to get stuck on the negative.

I love this. My mom also wouldn't let me color my hair (thank God), but would let me perm it? I love it now when people ask me "if that's my real color." Also, I'm still holding out hope for being a Princess πŸ™‚

Being present is something I'm also striving for this year – but so far for me, it's easier said than done! I've never really cut my hair either and I'm so glad…long hair is such a pain to take care of but it's still my favorite look!

Your hair is to die for! Mine is so processed that it’s thin and broke. Bleh! So jealous of that.

The thing I like about myself the most physically (this is hard b/c I’m always hard on myself with this. I know I’m not a model…) is my eye lashes. I have those obnoxiously long, natural eye lashes that if you curl them back, they will touch my brow bone.

your hair is absolutely gorgeous – i can see why you love it! my mum wouldn't let me cut mine when i was younger either, and i used to have long-ish hair a couple years ago but it just didn't hold curl or anything so i cut it and i must say i dig the shorter length.
and yes to being present- i think we could all work on this!

Social media definitely takes our attention away from living. I am going to take on your challenge as well and say no more phone after 10. I'm so glad you are going to find a tennis league. You do have beautiful hair!!! My mom would never let my sister and I cut ours short when we were younger and she talked me out of coloring it for the longest time. I let a boss talk me in to highlights when I was in my mid 20's and once you color your hair you can't really stop. I wish I wouldn't have messed with it!

I too have been trying to stay off the phone more while in the presence of others. Amazing how attached we have become to them when they didn't really exist 15 years ago.
