I’m pretty sure this is the longest I’ve gone without doing a Recently Read post and that’s because books that I want to read have not been easy to come by! Earlier this month I decided to sign up for Kindle Unlimited. Amazon was running a special for $1.99 for 3 months – after that it goes up to 9.99 / month and I will more than likely cancel. Since the library didn’t have too many e-book options available, I decided to give this a try and already downloaded 3 books. Here are some recent reads!

Small Admissions || Poor Kate doesn’t really know what she wants to do with her life after she is dumped by her boyfriend, left without a job and has pretty much turned into a sloth. Her sister is the opposite – has her life together and feels the need to help Kate. She is able to get her an interview at a prestigious Day School in Manhattan and slowly Kate’s life starts to change as she begins to challenge herself. I’m sure the admissions process in NYC is unlike any other of getting your kids into a revered school so that they can be set up for success in high school and college – but the stories these parents tell, these small admissions if you will, are outrageous! Overall it had a bit of the Nanny Diaries feel to it and for $1.99 it was worth the read! It was very well written!
Sweet Thing || I really like Renee Carlino and I normally like all her characters but oh my gosh if I could come through the pages of this book and slap Mia Kelly like so many of her friends wanted to do I so would have! Her father dies leaving her his cafe and all that goes along with it. She is fighting so hard against being like him – a musician and a free spirit, yet she finds herself falling further away from her Ivy League upbringing straight into and out of the arms of Will. Their relationship honestly made me want to yell at both of them, but maybe that’s a good thing because I was really invested in them. As much as I wanted to slap the characters in the book, it was a good read – I’d recommend!
Match Made in Manhattan|| I really connected with Alison as the main character. I felt like I had gone on all those dates at one point and if I was to write a book about dating in a big city I think it would be very similar! The witty dialogue of the email and text encounters she has on Match are so fun and easy to read! You follow her throughout her year on Match and I have to say I was a little surprised with the ending of the book. I didn’t not like it, but I was surprised. It was still a fun and easy read! Definitely recommend for those of you who are chick lit fans.
The Silent Wife || Of the two main characters, Lara and Maggie, either one of them could have been regarded as the Silent Wife – so well done by the author to let you decide who was really the silent one. Maggie marries into a loud and boisterous Italian family as the second wife, but Lara her brother-in-law’s wife is also the second wife. Each woman thinks she has the other figured out, but neither of them are being truthful. I didn’t really start to enjoy the book until about 65% of the way through when things started to come together, but once they did it was definitely a page turner. Each chapter alternated between Maggie and Lara and then wrapped up nicely in the end! It wasn’t a scary thriller or even psychological like some other books I’ve read, but a good read nonetheless.
The Worst Best Man || Fair warning, this book is definitely R-rated and a bit racy! I wasn’t sure how much substance this would have, but the writing wasn’t bad at all and the character development was good. Franchesca and Aiden could not be more different, he’s made of money and she had to take a second job catering parties just to afford to be the maid of honor at her best friends wedding. He’s the notorious bachelor of Manhattan and she couldn’t be farther from his type! I was happy that the entire book didn’t take place at the wedding. It evolved, the story evolved and as much as some parts reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey, it had more substance to it and was enjoyable enough. It’s also a free download as part of the Kindle Unlimited program so not harm if I didn’t like it!

Ummm getting the kindle unlimited. What a great deal. Loved your thoughts on Sweet Thing. I want to check out Match Made in Manhattan.
I've wanted to read The Silent Wife–it's been on my list for a while. I'm glad that you liked it!
Always love these posts! Some of my favorite authors that I have found through KU are Brittney Sahin, Elisabeth Naughton, Rebecca Deel, and Lily Harper Hart/Amanda M. Lee.
Always love your reviews B! I have kindle unlimited right now and need to wrap up some reads before it expires. I've found some good ones and some flops but feel like I got my monies worth. There are just so many other books on my list to read and I kind of got off track on the kindle unlimited rabbit hole. haha
All of these books sound pretty interesting. The Sweet Thing interests me the most.
Sweet Thing sounds really interesting. Thanks for the recommendations dear.
