Pregnancy Rewind – The First Half

Happy Wednesday, friends! I know that these posts aren’t for everyone, but I wanted to have something to look back on with Baby #2. It feels like this second pregnancy is flying by which could be due to the move and trying to set up a house. Either way the first 22 weeks have passed and I thought I would share a little recap, what products I’ve been using and plans we have for baby #2.

First 13 weeks ||

Going back to the start, we found out at 5 weeks that we were expecting and my first appointment was actually virtual due to COVID which was clearly different than with Sophia. Around the 6-7 week mark I started to get food aversions and extreme fatigue, which could have been due to chasing after a toddler. I survived on carbs – pasta, bread and bagels were my best friend, oh and pizza! The other biggest difference from the first time around was that Gary wasn’t able to come to any appointments with me – having to FaceTime him in wasn’t fun, but he was there for the big 20 week ultrasound, which is what mattered most. I also think I started showing so much earlier this time, probably around 12 weeks it felt like my belly popped, but that could have been due to the carbs too!

One of the biggest milestones of the first trimester was that we found and bought our house!! If you’ve been following the real estate market at all, then you know it’s absolutely bonkers right now. Bidding so much over asking, forgoing inspections and just praying your offer is accepted! Well we felt incredibly lucky that we were only looking for a couple of weekends before we found our house. We were one of 21 offers and were able to offer the sellers a rent back option for 60 days for them to also find their next house, which apparently no one else offered them.

We had a lot of milestones in that first trimester – Gary’s birthday, my birthday, our anniversary and buying a house! And of course, finding out Baby #2 is a boy! It was quite the Q1 for us! Some people have asked if Sophia understands that she is going to be a big sister and my answer is, sort of. I bought her this book and we read it a few times a week. I’d say on a scale of 1-10, she’s about a 6 for excitement, so we will see how it goes. She’s very much into taking care of her dolls and playing mommy so I hope that translates well when the baby comes.

13-22 Weeks ||

I was so happy once the nausea and fatigue subsided right around the 13 week mark! It also helped that the weather started to turn and the sun was out so we could enjoy the city for the last few weeks we had before the burbs came knocking!

I made a conscious effort to switch some of my beauty products to be more natural including:

Since I started to show a lot earlier this time around, I ordered a few new comfy pieces to wear. I bought these joggers from Nordstrom and they are heaven! I feel pretty fortunate that I’m pregnant through the same seasons, just a few weeks different than with Sophia, so I’ll be rewearing a lot of my summer clothes from the last time around as well. I bought this swing dress which is non-maternity and so comfortable. I try to buy as many non-maternity pieces as possible so that I can wear it after the bump as well.

Working out has been pretty nonexistent for me this time around. Between just feeling completely run down the first trimester and packing / unpacking all of April and May there has been little urge for me to get exercise in. I will say that I always try to get at least 10,000 steps in so I feel like I am being active and getting as much fresh air as possible. I give in to cravings when I have them, but try to eat balanced meals when possible.

We’re going to be reusing most of Sophia’s nursery furniture for baby boy, but giving him his own touches. While i’m not set on a theme, I do love the baby animals I’ve seen on Etsy, so we might plan around that. The room was also already painted blue, so that’s done!

I think the summer is going to make things fly by even faster, especially when you realize that June is next week! We are so very excited to have a new little around, but also soaking in the months of Sophia being an only child for just a little bit longer.

    So much has happened for you guys recently – certainly a lot to celebrate! I was an only child, but I love seeing toddlers’ reactions to welcoming a new sibling since I never experienced it. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend wanted to send his brother back to the hospital. 😂 You’ll have to share Sophia’s reaction when the baby boy comes!
