Happy Wednesday, friends! As I get closer to my due date – give or take 6 weeks, I am realizing that there were things I had done with Sophia that this time around I am either not getting to or just realize they aren’t as important. I actually had to go back to my post three years ago on what I packed for the hospital the first time around and what I will need this go around. I definitely learned that less is more and to take EVERYTHING that they offer you for back home. We took the extra hospital swaddles that were great for using on the go when I didn’t want to ruin anything nice.
The photos in this post are actually ones that Gary and I took while we were on on our mini babymoon last month! We found a great little park near our hotel and on our last morning decided to take some photos on our own. A couple weeks ago we also took professional photos that I just got back- so I can’t wait to share those, especially since Sophia was there for those! These photos were taken on an iPhone, propped up on a picnic table and we used the self timer on Gary’s watch. I honestly couldn’t get over the look of them and they turned out to be some of my favorite photos. Also, I wore this dress for my maternity photos with Sophia and love that I was able to wear it again – just feels very special to me!
I’ll definitely be bringing a set of pajamas, a nursing bra and nursing tank. I’m also going to change into this gown after giving birth, which I didn’t do last time. I used the bras and tanks non-stop for months with Sophia and the quality held up so well! I will more than likely wear a stretchy dress and flip flops to leave the hospital again this time. My makeup has been pretty minimal for the past year, so I’m fine doing my little 5 minute makeup routine to look put together for photos. This palette is a game changer and will 100% be coming with me.
Last time I thought I was going to take a shower at the hospital, but it was the last thing I wanted to do – nothing beats the at home shower! So I’m skipping the towel and shower flip flops! I am bringing an extra pair or fuzzy socks that I’ll probably just throw away at the hospital. They do have the grippy socks that I wore last time, so I will probably wear that again. I also have a feeling with the state of hospitals right now, they will probably not allow Gary to leave the room much, if at all, so there will be lots of snacks packed!
Definitely going to bring an extra long charging cable again and a little portable fan (same one we use on Sophia’s stroller) because one thing I was not prepared for was the sweats that come after you have the baby! I think it’s all the extra water leaving your body, but my gosh that was a shock! The nightlights for the bathroom are really great to pack because all the lighting is so bright and harsh in the room.
As I said, keeping it as minimal as possible this time around and this post is just what I’m packing for myself! When we had Sophia I definitely overpacked and this time, I’m bringing one newborn outfit and one 0-3 month outfit. In the hospital they are pretty much swaddled with just a diaper and hat on. I’ll also bring the baby book to do his little feet and hand prints, plus a little announcement card that I haven’t purchased yet and not even sure if I will!
There is a very high probability I’m forgetting something, not including our paperwork for the hospital and insurance card because they have all that on file! What else should I bring?
I absolutely love these photos and your dress! I cannot believe youβre within the six week timeframe! Iβm so excited for you to meet your little guy!

That dress is beautiful on you, what cute pics! π I found I brought a lot less the second time around too – no makeup this time I don’t know why I thought I’d have the energy post labour to get prettied up for visitors and photos, haha! Just the basics, although again I ran out of clean clothes with baby related incidents, ha! Definitely needed shower things – it was a 5 day stay both times to help with breastfeeding and make sure you and bub are all good, so I had to shower! π I know some public hospitals only do overnight stays though, and of course if you have a c section they keep you in over a week to make sure everything is okay.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend π
