What to do in Kennebunkport, Maine

Happy Wednesday, friends! As promised I wanted to share everything we did during our trip to Kennebunkport. The great thing is that all of this is family friendly, but could certainly be done sans kids as well!

Kennebunkport Maine Dock Square Shops And Area Shopping

Kennebunkport, Maine

You probably wont come to Kennebunkport without driving through or stopping by the Main Dock Square area. This is where the majority of the shopping and restaurants are and some of the prettiest views. I love all the local shops and not a chain store in sight – which I loved! Parking is really simple and there is plenty of street parking or lots that are very affordable if you plan to spend more time bopping around. I’m glad we brought our smaller stroller because the Uppa Baby would have been a bit too big to maneuver on the streets.

Old Orchard Beach

Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Southern Maine

One of the mornings we wanted to entertain the kids and while it wasn’t really a beach day, it wasn’t terrible enough to be indoors so we went 30 minutes away to Old Orchard Beach. Just as the name suggests, it definitely has a beach as well as an incredible pier and of course the Palace Playland. This is both an amusement park and arcade, but the amusement park is only open in the afternoons – at least when we went, which was totally fine because the arcade is over 20,000 square feet of games – both new and old. Sophia and Mason had the best time and we spent over an 1.5 there and probably could have stayed longer if not for needing lunch. I did absolutely no research on where to eat, but we headed to the pier and found another family eating at one of the restaurants so settled there because we knew our kids would be in good company – ha! They also have little shops and another mini arcade

IT Adventure Ropes Course

I am not one to go to the mall while on vacation, but one of the morning’s was particularly gloomy and we needed something indoors. Unfortunately there isn’t much sight seeing to do indoors in Kennebunkport and the touristy activities either didn’t open until much later or weren’t open during that part of the week (Monday & Tuesday). We headed to the Maine Mall about 30 minutes away from Kennebunkport and has it’s own arcade and bowling alley if you’re ever in need of something to do. It also has an Adventure Course / Zip line Adventure inside the Jordan’s Furniture. We took Sophia to one a few months ago and she loved it, so we knew this would be a hit. We also grabbed lunch at the Johnny Rockets, which was in the food court, but not terrible.

Mother’s Beach ||

What’s a summer vacation without a little beach time? There are no shortage of great beaches up and down the coastline of Maine. Some are more rocky than others, but another family staying at our hotel mentioned they went to Mother’s Beach and that it was perfect for a beach day, which we were in desperate need of! Another reason it’s a perfect beach is the really big playground right next to it that the kids bounced back and forth between the beach and playground! If you happen to have more than one beach day, Gooch’s beach is another fan favorite!

If the kids were a little bit older, I would have done a whale watching tour which also takes you around to the Bush Compound – via water of course. The Trolley Museum wasn’t open while we were there which would have been fun for the kids and if we had an extra day and the weather was a tad better I would have gladly taken the kids to Goat Island Lighthouse!

A lot of what we did ended up revolving around food, but I always think that’s a great way to see a new place as well! We loved Southern Maine and I can’t wait to explore more – specifically Bar Harbor which I’ve heard is amazing.

    Such a cute town! We’re talking about heading to Maine for a few days after dropping Lil’ Miss off at the camp I grew up going to in New Hampshire next year so I’ll have to add this to our list.
