Happy Monday, friends! I am so excited for today’s post because whenever I share my Apple Fitness workouts I get a ton of questions on if I’m liking it, how the workouts are and how it compares to other programs. I’ll start by saying that you’ll want an apple watch if you choose to sign up for Apple Fitness+. Is it a must? I think so, only because the entire point of the program is the connectivity with the watch.
How To Get It ||
We have a lot of Apple products! We sometimes joke that we could start our own Apple store. You can access Fitness+ via your phone, Apple TV or iPads. We signed up for Apple One Premier, which means we have access to News, TV+, Arcade, iCloud, Fitness+ and Music for $30.95 / month and can be shared with up to 5 people. When you think about how much we paid individually for just one gym membership, it was a no brainer to make the switch.
If you only want to do Fitness+ it’s $79.99 for the year or $9.99 a month – still so much less than the gym! They are also offering 3 months free if you don’t have an apple watch and are looking into buying one. If you already own an Apple watch, you can still try it for free.
How It Works ||
Once you’re ready to workout, you open the app and choose your workout. You can see that they have you pretty much covered in all areas. You can then further drill it down by duration of the workout and instructor. If you feel like you get a better workout with certain types of music, you can also filter by music!
Once you start your workouts your watch will connect and show up on the left side of the screen. It indicates your heart rate, how long you’ve been working out, calories burned and if you hit a goal while working out, the screen on whatever device you’re on will do a little celebration. Some workouts also have a “burn bar” where you can compare how you are working out against other people that have taken the workout – are you middle of the pack or leading it?!
Why It’s Worth It ||
I’ve tried a lot of fitness apps, workouts and of course gyms and this feels almost exactly like being at the gym with an instructor right in front of you. What makes it different in my opinion is that not only do you have the instructor leading the “class,” but you have two other people with them – one doing a modified workout and the other doing just a bit more. In the spinning and rowing classes there are more instructors that just get you energized.
While the majority of the HIIT & Strength workouts only require dumbbells and a mat, we did get a regular spin bike from Amazon and a rower. They have really just elevated our workouts to another level and once again make us feel like we’re in a real gym with instructors right in front of us.
As with any program, you start to find favorite instructors, workouts and can build out your own schedule. For example in January I was doing Monday, Wednesday & Friday for strength and Tuesday / Thursday alternating between rowing and spin. Then I’d do a HIIT on one weekend day or sometimes nothing on the weekend!
The beauty of Apple Fitness+ is you can take your workout anywhere! If you want to do yoga in the park, all you need is your watch and something to watch the class on. Or if you’re visiting a friend or family member that’s not part of the program, but has an Apple TV, your watch will automatically log you in and you can do your workout there.
We absolutely love it and really can’t imagine every going back to a normal gym environment. I’m sure I’ll take classes here and there, but for the foreseeable future, we’re all in on the Apple Fitness+ train!
Have you tried Apple Fitness+ yet?
I know you’ve mentioned this to me before, but I enjoyed seeing your screenshots. It reminds me of the Peloton app from what I’ve seen of that. I just might have to try this since now I have an Apple Watch!
I am all about workouts from home! I haven’t had a gym membership since I left Atlanta. You can definitely get full body in with some weights and a mat. I love that this works with your apple watch, that is cool that you can see it on the screen.
This is so neat!! I’ve been looking into the Peleton app, but I recently got an Apple Watch so this seems much more practical!! I’ll definitely be checking checking this out!!
I love my Apple Watch so I’ll have to check this out! I haven’t looked much into this since I always loved going to the gym so much, but this pandemic is killing my gym time!
Thanks for reviewing! I love working out at home and these workouts remind me a lot of the ones I do.
I miss going to the gym! Never thought that I would ever say that haha. This sounds really cool though! I like the idea of feeling like you are in a class with other people. It just makes it fun. I love that Sophia is getting her workout in too haha. SO cute.
If I only had an iwatch! I have wanted one over the years, but find that I need the functionality of the Garmin or Fitbit for my lifestyle.
I wish I had an iwatch, but the Garmin and Fitbit fit my lifestyle and work out goals more. But this seems like an awesome option
I am an Apple product junkie too! I have not checked this out because I am so addicted to barre and paid through the year. I love that some of the workouts don’t require a lot of equipment!
Oh my goodness how precious is Sophia on the rower?! Can you believe I still haven’t purchased an Apple Watch? I think about getting one all the time, and need to just do it! All about home workouts even well after the pandemic is long gone.
